Colorectal cancer is on the rise in young adults. Typically, there aren't symptoms of colorectal cancer in its early stages. That's why screenings are so important.

For people at average risk, colorectal cancer screening is generally recommended beginning at age 45. Depending on your personal or family history and other risk factors, your doctor may recommend screening earlier.

Talk with your doctor about your risk and when screening may be right for you.

Recognizing excellence in patient and family support

Each month, our surgery waiting area volunteers help support families during more than 800 surgical cases — offering comfort, reassurance and a caring presence during moments that can feel stressful or uncertain.

That commitment to compassionate, patient-centered support is exactly why we’re celebrating Doreen, one of our dedicated volunteers in the Surgery Waiting Area and our recent Volunteer of the Quarter.

In July, Doreen was mentioned by name in multiple 5-star Google reviews from grateful visitors who shared how her kindness helped make their experience feel calmer and more supported while their loved ones were in surgery.

Doreen’s recognition is a reminder that excellence in healthcare is not only reflected in clinical care, but also in the compassion and connection families experience throughout their time with us.

Congratulations, Doreen. Thank you for helping make a meaningful difference for our patients, visitors and families.

Lung cancer screening can help find cancer early — often before symptoms begin. If you’re 50 to 80 and meet at least one of the screening criteria shown here, you may be eligible for a low-dose CT scan, a type of X-ray that screens your lungs. If you have Medicare, you must be 50 to 77 to qualify. Swipe for more about screening guidelines.

As part of HCA Healthcare, HCA Florida JFK Hospital can connect you to more resources, more solutions and more possibilities for your care. Through the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Cancer Network, you have access to personalized, coordinated cancer care close to home, should you ever need it.

On World Drowning Prevention Day, communities around the world Go Blue to raise awareness about drowning prevention and the simple actions that can save lives.

Drowning is fast, silent, and preventable.

Protect your loved ones by following these important layers of protection:
• Close, constant supervision
• Barriers and alarms around pools
• Water competency through swim lessons
• U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets
• Emergency preparedness, including learning CPR

Did you know?
• Drowning can happen in as little as 30 seconds.
• Nearly 70% of childhood drownings occur during non-swim times.
• 88% of child drownings happen with at least one adult present.

If a water-related emergency occurs, call 911 immediately.
For emergency care when every second counts, visit your nearest emergency room. Find the closest HCA Florida Healthcare ER here: https://bit.ly/4pE2vbL
