Our team is full of new faces lately and we're so excited to share with you our new Volunteer Coordinator - Sonya Higdon 💜✨

Hello everyone! My name is Sonya Higdon, and I am excited to join Southern Care Hospice–Atmore as the newest Volunteer Coordinator.
I have nearly 20 years of experience in healthcare, serving roles ranging from Dialysis Patient Care Technician to Orthopedic Referral Coordinator to Patient Service Coordinator in Home Health and more.
My passion for hospice care comes from a personal experience with my mother, which gave me a firsthand understanding of the comfort, support, and compassion Southern Care Hospice-Atmore provides to patients and their families.
I am honored to be part of a team that truly goes above and beyond for those we serve. My goal is to grow our volunteer program and build a strong volunteer community that helps patients and families feel supported during one of life's most important journeys.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
I look forward to meeting our volunteers and becoming a part of this wonderful community!

We are so excited to introduce our new Hospice Care Consultant, Maggie Quimby! 💙✨

Maggie has almost 6 years hospice experience as a HCC. What makes her heart for hospice even more special is her experience from the family side. Maggie's husband was cared for by SouthernCare Hospice, giving her unique understanding of what families are going through during some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives. She knows firsthand that hospice isn't just about caring for the patient - its about caring for the WHOLE family, offering compassion, support, understanding, and a little bit of comfort when its needed most.

We are so thankful to have someone who brings both professional dedication and personal understanding to this role as well as a positive spirit, a heart for helping others, and so much compassion for our team. Maggie is already proving to be such an awesome, caring, genuine addition to our hospice family.

Hospice is about so much more than the care we provide - it's about the people who show up every day with kindness, dedication, and a true heart for serving other. We know she is going to be an incredible part of that mission!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Atmore Community Hospital for inviting Jason HCC, Becky CL, and Tina VC to speak at their Lunch & Learn. It was truly an honor to spend time with such a dedicated group of healthcare professionals and share more about the support hospice can provide to patients and families in our community, as well as our We Honor Veterans program.

We appreciate the opportunity to discuss how we can continue working together to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Partnerships like these help ensure individuals receive the comfort, dignity, and support they deserve.

Every hospice team needs balance - and we hit the jackpot.

Tracy - the calm, serious, get-it-handled queen. She's organized, focused, and makes sure everything that needs to be done gets done. Resources secured or hard conversations navigated, she's three steps ahead. She advocates fiercely and makes sure no detail is missed.

Kristen - the bubbly, sociable one who can walk into any room and instantly make it feel lighter. She builds trust without trying and reminds families they're not alone. Somehow, she finds a way to bring laughter and warmth into heavy moments. Her heart for people is undeniable.

Different personalities. Same incredible compassion. Our families are better supported because of these two - and we are so grateful for the way they show up every single day.
