This picture was taken during my first job as a Labor & Delivery nurse at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in inner-city St. Louis. It was a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit, and looking back, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin my career.

I learned from some of the very best nurses, physicians, and patients. I learned medicine there, but I also learned about people. Behind every Labor & Delivery room door was a unique story, and those stories taught me that the best healthcare is about so much more than medicine. It’s about meeting people where they are during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Eventually, my nursing journey brought me to Alabama, where I continued caring for moms, babies, and families from all walks of life.

Then it was my turn.

After my first baby, I experienced postpartum anxiety and depression. Five weeks postpartum, I had a seizure that temporarily took away my driver’s license and left me feeling incredibly isolated. Between my oldest son and my triplets, I experienced a miscarriage. Then came triplets…which deserve a story all their own.

Those experiences changed me.

They didn’t make me a better nurse because I knew more medicine. They made me a better listener, teacher, advocate, and helped me understand what people are carrying long after they leave the hospital.

Today, I don’t work full-time at the bedside, but I’m still deeply rooted in maternal and family health. I teach nursing students, continue working with families through childbirth education and pediatric sleep consulting, and spend much of my time serving individuals with disabilities and their families.

More than anything, I find myself asking one question:

How can we better support people through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, unexpected diagnoses, disabilities, loss, and the many seasons of family life?

That’s where Magnolia Families came from.

It wasn’t born from a business plan.

It grew from years of caring for people, walking through my own experiences, and realizing there are still so many opportunities to bridge the gap between healthcare and real life.

I’m excited about where Magnolia Families is headed, and honestly…I feel like it’s just getting started.

Whether you’ve been following along for years or you’re just finding Magnolia Families, I’m grateful you’re here. 🌿

Stopped by Lee OB today and saw my updated childbirth class flyer hanging up, so I figured I’d share here too 🤍

“Childbirth & Beyond” classes through Magnolia Families will have updated summer dates coming soon.

These classes are designed to help families feel informed, prepared, calm, and supported heading into birth, postpartum, and those early newborn months. We cover realistic hospital birth expectations, unmedicated and medicated birth education, labor support, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and even a little newborn sleep along the way.

We recently updated the flyer/sign-up process because the QR code was not working well with cell service in the building, so now you can simply text the number on the flyer for details and registration info 🌿

This is awesome news for local mamas!! Great job East Alabama Health!

We are excited to announce that all Labor & Delivery rooms at East Alabama Medical Center now offer the Novii™+ Wireless Patch System — giving our patients greater comfort, flexibility and freedom during labor while continuing to provide advanced baby monitoring!

This wireless, beltless technology allows moms to move more freely, change positions, rest comfortably and even shower during labor without being restricted by traditional cords and monitors. By encouraging movement throughout labor, the Novii™+ system helps create a more comfortable and flexible birthing experience while supporting safe, continuous monitoring.

We’ve also expanded this technology into OB Observation for patients who require extended monitoring, further enhancing the care, support and comfort provided to women in this unit. EAMC is excited for this new addition to better serve our patients!

I’ve had several people ask lately if I’m still taking sleep clients… and the answer is YES 🤍

I never stopped helping mamas, just got a little quieter on here while figuring out my relationship with social media 😂

Behind the scenes, I’m still doing what I love… helping families get rest, feel confident, and actually enjoy this season a little more

If you need help with pediatric sleep, childbirth education, and all things newborn and transition into motherhood, I’m here.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
