L-arginine is an amino acid that supports blood flow and cardiovascular function by helping the body produce nitric oxide, which relaxes and widens blood vessels.

Many athletes use L-arginine to support exercise performance and endurance. By improving blood flow, it may help increase oxygen and nutrient delivery to working muscles, which can potentially aid performance and recovery.

L-arginine is also involved in the release of hormones such as growth hormone and insulin, both of which play important roles in muscle growth, recovery, and energy metabolism.

Beyond the gym, L-arginine contributes to immune function, wound healing, cell growth, and antioxidant defense. Its role in nitric oxide production may also help support healthy aging and overall cardiovascular health.

If you’re looking for a little extra pump during your workout, try adding some L-arginine to your pre-workout routine and see how you respond.

Might surprise you: one of the most problematic ingredients in processed foods may not be sugar itself — it’s maltodextrin.

Maltodextrin is a highly processed carbohydrate commonly made from cornstarch, rice, potato starch, or wheat. It’s added to thousands of foods, supplements, sports drinks, sauces, snacks, and even products labeled “sugar free” or “zero sugar.”

Even though it’s classified as a complex carbohydrate, maltodextrin is digested extremely fast and can spike blood sugar rapidly. Its glycemic index is often listed higher than table sugar, sometimes double to triple that of table sugar, depending on the formulation and processing method.

For some people — especially those monitoring blood sugar, insulin resistance, diabetes, appetite, or energy crashes — this can be important to watch for on ingredient labels.

That doesn’t mean every product containing maltodextrin is automatically “bad,” but it’s a reminder that “sugar free” does not always mean metabolically friendly.

Common places you’ll find maltodextrin:

* Pre-workouts and supplements
* Protein powders
* Sugar-free products
* Flavored drinks
* Candy and gum
* Processed snacks
* Fast food seasonings and sauces

Reading labels matters more than front-of-package marketing.

Some systematic reviews suggest that vitamin D supplementation can lead to reductions in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Other reviews have reported that vitamin D supplementation may help increase HDL.

Cholesterol levels can also influence vitamin D availability in the body. Observational studies consistently show a correlation between conditions associated with higher cholesterol, such as obesity and metabolic syndrome, and lower circulating vitamin D levels. This inverse relationship suggests an individual’s metabolic state can impact their vitamin D status.

Consulting with a healthcare provider for personalized guidance is recommended. A balanced diet, regular physical activity, and safe sun exposure remain foundational for managing both vitamin D and cholesterol levels to support overall health.
