Healthy smiles, helpful resources, and great conversations. That's what community care is all about!

On July 21, our Auburn Lead Dental Hygienist, Christina Cox, and Ashley, Dental Patient Services Representative Supervisor, spent the day at the UAIC Elders Center providing fluoride treatments, sharing oral health tips, and demonstrating how to use water picks.

Participants went home with plenty of tools to keep their smiles healthy, including toothbrushes, floss, mouthwash, denture cleaner, tongue scrapers, water picks, and Chapa-De resource bags.

But we're not done yet! Next week, we'll be back with Dr. Nkadi to provide eye health screenings and help determine whether reading glasses may be needed.

A big thank you to the United Auburn Indian Community's Elders Center for opening your doors to us each month. We love spending time with the elders in our community and sharing care, education, and resources that help support healthy, happy lives.

Need to schedule your own dental, medical, or eye care appointment? Give us a call at 530-887-2800 or use healow® with provider code AHHIAD to book online.

It is going to be hot today and throughout the rest of the week. Stay hydrated, stay indoors whenever possible, and never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle. Be sure to check in on older adults and anyone who may not have access to air conditioning.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion, which can include:
• Heavy sweating
• Headache
• Dizziness or weakness
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea or vomiting

If someone is experiencing these symptoms, move them to a cool place, offer water if they are able to drink, and monitor them closely. Seek medical care if symptoms worsen or do not improve.

Call 9-1-1 immediately if a person develops signs of heat stroke, including:
• Confusion or unusual behavior
• Loss of consciousness
• Seizures
• A very high body temperature
• Inability to drink water or respond appropriately

Heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
