I think one of the most beautiful things herbalism can teach us is how to change our relationship with plants.

It is easy to look at a plant and immediately think about its constituents, its actions, its uses, or what we can make from it.

Those things matter. But they are not the whole story.

Every plant we encounter is part of a much larger web of relationships. And when we harvest a plant for food or medicine, we become part of that story too.

For me, learning herbalism has increasingly become an invitation to look beyond what a plant can do for me and toward how I can know and relate to this plant.

That shift changes the way we harvest.
The way we forage.
The way we garden.
And perhaps even the way we understand ourselves.

What plant has taught you to slow down and pay attention? 🌿

I will soon be offering more online classes and I want to hear from you what you would like to see!

I will soon be offering more online classes and I want to hear from you what you would like to see!

I’m planning some new online classes and would love your input! I want to create classes that are genuinely useful, engaging, and fit the way you actually like to learn. This short survey will help me decide what to teach, how to teach it, and what format works best for you. Cheyenne Yates Among O...

Your ancestors are closer than you think.

In the trees.
In the wind.
In the land beneath your feet.
In the stories you carry.

You are never as alone as you think.

Sometimes it just takes the act of slowing down so that you can listen to their wisdom and encouragement.

Join me for a guided Wild Plant Walk exploring the plants growing all around us, from nourishing and medicinal species to the poisonous ones. We’ll learn the basics of plant identification, foraging, and the deeper stories these plants carry in the landscape.

And because August heat is no joke, we’re meeting in the morning to enjoy the plants before the heat of the day sets in! ☀️🌱

Whether you’re brand new to plant identification or already have some experience, there’s something to discover. Come curious, bring your water bottle, and let’s get to know the wild plants around us.

You can now see the recording of my talk, Plant Spirit Communication: Relearning the Language of the Green World at Witchspace!

In this Plant Spirit Communication talk, we will explore how to go beyond simply identifying plants and dive deep into the art of building meaningful, reciprocal relationships with them. You will learn the language of the plants so you can commune with their spirits, for both personal and community healing. Cheyenne Jolene Yates, Ecologist (M.S.) and Herbalist of Among Oaks and Owls, weaves together both science and spiritual awareness to offer grounded, ethical ways to communicate with plants.

We will learn how plants communicate through ecology, chemistry, and subtle perception, and how we can begin to tune into them. The talk explores practical foundations of plant spirit communication, such as connection to breath, sensory awareness, and consent. Cheyenne will also address common misconceptions, ethical considerations, and the importance of spiritual discernment.

Participants will leave with simple, grounded practices they can begin immediately and a renewed sense of kinship and responsibility toward the green world. This presentation is ideal for anyone longing to reconnect with the living intelligence of the Earth.

This class is part of the Witchspace launch conference, head to https://witchspace.app to attend this and 30 more live witchcraft classes ✨️

Nature has a way of reminding us that we are never separate from the world around us.

As Gary Ferguson says, “The most important thing is how nature shows us that everything is connected.”

The trees breathe with us. The soil feeds us. The pollinators carry life from flower to flower. The plants we walk past every day are part of relationships that stretch far beyond what we can see.

When we slow down enough to pay attention, nature becomes more than a backdrop. It becomes a teacher.

And perhaps one of its greatest lessons is this: we belong to something much larger than ourselves. 🌿

What is nature teaching you lately?
