Ezra spent 64 precious hours surrounded by family and love.

“He never knew what pain was and lived a life only knowing love.”

On Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, Sarah is honoring Ezra’s life and inviting other families to Piedmont Augusta’s Walk to Remember. This annual event offers a space to remember, connect and find support alongside others affected by pregnancy or infant loss.

Ben Reimer regularly works alongside cardiovascular teams throughout the region. Earlier this year, he found himself on the other side of care after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AFib).

His symptoms included dizziness, chest fluttering, shortness of breath and chest pain. During some episodes, his heart rate climbed into the 180s, leaving him so lightheaded he had to pull over while driving.

After medication didn’t control his symptoms, Ben underwent an AFib ablation at Piedmont Augusta.

Today, he’s back to working on cars and motorcycles, fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors.

“My daily life was affected by wondering when the next episode would happen,” Ben said. “Now I have peace of mind and have been able to get back to absolutely everything I did before.”

During , Ben is encouraging others not to ignore symptoms like dizziness, chest fluttering, shortness of breath or chest pain and to talk with a healthcare provider if something doesn’t feel right.

When 83-year-old Carol Wittkamp began experiencing dizziness, nausea and severe swelling, she never imagined a leaking heart valve was the cause.

Diagnosed with severe tricuspid regurgitation, Carol became one of the first patients in the Augusta region to receive a transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement at Piedmont Augusta, bringing advanced heart care closer to home.

“The first thing I remember was being able to breathe,” Carol said. “The symptoms were gone.”

Today, Carol is back to enjoying life and spending time with the people she loves, thanks to innovative heart care delivered right in her community.

“Thank you, Piedmont Augusta, for giving me the chance to continue my quality of life.”

Practice makes better prepared caregivers. 🩺

During Healthcare Simulation Week, we’re highlighting how high-fidelity simulation helps healthcare professionals strengthen clinical skills, practice decision-making and build confidence in a safe learning environment.

By working through realistic scenarios before they happen in real life, caregivers can be better prepared when every decision counts.

For patients navigating an unfamiliar diagnosis, a difficult treatment, or a stressful hospital stay, comfort can make a meaningful difference. Sometimes, that comfort arrives on four paws.

Through Piedmont’s partnership with Happy Tails Pet Therapy, certified volunteer therapy dogs visit patients and staff across metro Atlanta. Their presence can help ease anxiety, reduce stress, and provide a calming emotional connection during moments that may feel overwhelming.

By bringing moments of comfort and reassurance into the hospital environment, programs like pet therapy help create a more supportive, compassionate experience for the people we care for.

Their visits are a reminder that even small moments of support can have a meaningful impact on a patient’s experience. 🧡

When hip and leg soreness started slowing Mark McKay down, he thought it might be a nerve issue. His primary care physician, Dr. Korie, suspected there could be more to the story.

An X-ray revealed osteoarthritis in Mark’s right hip, setting him on the path to a hip replacement and physical therapy with Piedmont Orthopedics.

Recovery meant relearning some of the everyday movements most of us never think twice about, from tying his shoes to simply moving with ease. But with a care team Mark describes as “phenomenal,” he kept moving forward.

Today, the longtime 95.5 WSB traffic reporter is back on the air, back to doing what he loves and moving more like himself again.

For Mark, the road back started with a primary care physician who recognized there might be more going on.

Piedmont Heart is No. 1 in the Southeast. 🧡

U.S. News and World Report has named Piedmont Heart Institute the best program in the Southeast for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery in its 2026–2027 Best Hospitals rankings. And for the first time, Piedmont Heart ranks among the top 20 heart programs in the nation.

Piedmont Heart also earned “High Performing” recognition in all eight heart procedures and conditions evaluated.

“Placing among the nation’s top 20 heart programs and earning the top spot in the Southeast is a testament to the exceptional physicians, nurses and clinical teams whose expertise and compassion impact patients every day,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., chief executive officer of Piedmont Atlanta and a Piedmont Heart physician.

The recognition extends beyond heart care. Piedmont Atlanta was also rated High Performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, and neurology and neurosurgery, placing it among the top 10% nationally for care in those specialties.

The annual Best Hospitals list is designed to help patients and providers identify hospitals that excel in the care they may need.

Primary care is often where the journey begins.

After noticing an unusual lump, Brad's primary care doctor quickly coordinated testing and connected him to the next steps, helping him get answers without delay.

Looking back, Brad says that timely, coordinated care put him on a path he never expected, but one he didn't have to navigate alone.

"The personal and competent care I received at Piedmont has put me on a path to healing so I can continue making memories with my family. For that, I am forever grateful."

Brad's story is a reminder that a primary care provider is more than someone you see for an annual checkup. They're your first call when something doesn't feel right, helping connect you to the care you need when every moment matters.

Piedmont Augusta was proud to recognize members of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, athletic trainers, and EMS personnel as our August First Friday Heroes during a special ceremony at the North Augusta Department of Public Safety Headquarters.

These dedicated professionals worked together to save the life of a Texas father who suffered a cardiac arrest while attending the Nike EYBL Peach Jam basketball tournament. Their quick response, teamwork, and commitment to providing exceptional care gave him a second chance with his family.

Thank you to these heroes for answering the call when every second mattered. Your actions remind us of the incredible impact first responders and healthcare professionals make in our community every day.

There was plenty to cheer for at Miracle Kids Night with the Columbus Clingstones, but one of the biggest moments belonged to Greenlee Lamb.

A former patient at the Piedmont Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital and the 2026 Children's Miracle Network, Greenlee threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game, surrounded by her family, care team, and a community cheering her on.

The clinical research happening at Piedmont today is helping shape the care patients receive tomorrow.

In 2025, 1,392 patients enrolled in clinical trials at Piedmont. By year-end, 357 active trials were underway across our system, with more than 200 providers conducting research. Behind those numbers are patients accessing new treatments, physicians advancing medicine and communities benefiting from care informed by research.

In episode two of Care That Connects: Innovation Edition, we’re exploring how Piedmont research is helping expand access, improve outcomes and bring new possibilities closer to home.

Five months after undergoing a quintuple bypass surgery, Greg returned to the place where his second chance began.

Only this time, he wasn’t arriving as a patient.

He ran past the hospital that helped save his life while taking part in the Peachtree Road Race.

Recovery isn’t measured by miles alone. It’s found in every step forward, every milestone reached, and every reminder of how far you’ve come.
We’re honored to have been part of Greg’s journey and grateful to celebrate this incredible moment alongside him. 🧡
