Benefits of Progesterone

Improves Sleep: Progesterone interacts with brain receptors to produce a natural calming effect, which helps reduce nighttime awakenings and improves overall sleep quality.
Stabilizes Mood: As a natural relaxant, it interacts with GABA receptors in the brain to help ease feelings of anxiety, irritability, and stress.

Protects the Uterus: In estrogen-based HRT, progesterone is essential because it prevents the overgrowth of the endometrial lining, reducing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer.
Reduces Menopausal Symptoms: It is highly effective at managing hot flashes, night sweats, and mood shifts that frequently occur during perimenopause and menopause.
Regulates Cycles: It helps balance estrogen, which can stabilize irregular periods, ease PMS symptoms, and support conditions like PCOS.

Physical and Long-Term Health

Supports Bone Density: Progesterone helps maintain strong, healthy bones by promoting the activity of bone-building cells, lowering the risk of osteoporosis.
Improves Skin and Hair: By aiding collagen production, it helps keep skin elastic and reduces hair thinning.
Balances Thyroid and Metabolism: Progesterone supports thyroid hormone function and assists in fat utilization, helping to sustain normal weight and metabolism.

Pregnancy: ‘Pro-Gestation’

Establishes and Maintains Pregnancy: Often called the "pregnancy hormone," it thickens the uterine lining to allow a fertilized egg to implant and grow, while preventing premature contractions.

Bioidentical vs. Synthetic:

When used in therapy, bioidentical or micronized progesterone is often preferred. Because it is molecularly identical to the hormone the body produces, it causes fewer side effects than synthetic progestins.

We used to think that Estrogen was only to prevent hot flashes after the childbearing years were over. Now we know that there are receptors to Estrogen on every cell in the body, and therefore every system in the body. Like pregnancy, every woman has a unique experience throughout the menopause journey, however, to keep all the systems functioning optimally as we age, estrogen therapy needs to be considered.

Testosterone is one of the s*x hormones that women produce, yet it is often overlooked. Women actually produce three times as much testosterone as estrogen before menopause. Levels of testosterone gradually decline with age and menopause.

The most commonly described symptoms of Testosterone insufficiency include mood disorders, depression, unexplained fatigue, change in s*xual function including reduced libido, memory challenges, hot flashes and vasomotor symptoms, bone loss, and decreased muscle strength and mass. Testosterone can be important in women for bone density and muscle mass, cognitive function, mood, s*xual function, and energy. Adequate levels of testosterone are important for the maintenance of musculoskeletal health and possibly vascular and brain function.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines state that testosterone supplementation can be considered for menopausal women with low s*xual desire if hormone replacement therapy (HRT) alone is not effective. Replacing testosterone levels can help to restore a woman's, (and a man's), vitality and s*xual wellness.

all know that each of our bodies are unique. We all look differently on the outside, and our chemistries reflect those differences as well. Conventional medicine approaches patients and treatments with 'standardized protocols', as if one treatment plan fits all. That is why we so many treatment failures in medicine. To be able to truly help each unique patient, we have to have the time to listen, look, and patiently approach the work up and treatment plan with that individual in mind.

We are hearing a lot about Semaglutide and Tirzepatide lately. These are medications that are called GLP-1s, or GIPs. They were originally used for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes, and then for weight loss.
Glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a peptide that the body makes naturally. This peptide helps to increase satiety, manage insulin and blood sugar levels and put the brakes on intestinal motility. With increasing age and increasing years of insulin resistance, the secretion and metabolic pathways utilized by this substance become impaired leading to weight gain, sugar cravings, inability to lose weight, increased inflammation and other problems.

GLP-1 agonists (like Semaglutide) are a class of medications that help to normalize blood sugar and insulin levels by mimicking the action of our own body’s GLP-1, thereby enhancing insulin secretion, inhibiting glucagon release, delaying gastric emptying, and reducing food intake through appetite suppression.
GLP-1 agonists most often come as subcutaneous injectable medications, meaning you inject a small amount of liquid medication just under the surface of the skin with a needle and syringe. You give the shots in the fatty tissue just under your skin (subcutaneous injection). Areas of your body you can give the injections include your belly, outer thighs, upper buttocks and the backs of your arms. It is the same as receiving insulin injections.
The shots are generally given 1 time a week, providing the same dose for 4 weeks in a row and then either continuing at the same dose or going up in dose. Initially the dosing is very low, as the person is able to tolerate the SE, then the dose increases.
Benefits of GLP-1s go far beyond weight loss and appetite suppression. They have a wide range of metabolic, neurologic and cardiovascular benefits.

Progesterone deficiency often manifests as "estrogen dominance" and can trigger symptoms like PMS, anxiety, insomnia, and heavy menstrual cycles. Bio-identical Progesterone replacement can help to ameliorate this by regulating the uterine lining, supporting the brain with neurotransmitter support, assisting receptors, and balancing un-apposed estrogen.
Progesterone supplementation promotes a consistent cycle by helping to regulate the luteal phase and it interacts with the brain's GABA receptors to promote a calming, anti-anxiety effect while helping with insomnia to maintain deeper, undisrupted sleep.
Progesterone also acts as a natural diuretic, reducing puffiness and water weight.Breast tenderness: Balances out the stimulatory effects of excess estrogen on breast tissue, and helps to decrease hot flashes and night sweats.
If you have been struggling with these symptoms and are seeking a provider with special training in hormone replacement, for both men and women.
