On June 19, 1865 more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free.
Juneteenth is more than a date. It’s a reminder of the strength, resilience, and enduring spirit of the African American community. It’s a time to reflect on progress, recognize the ongoing journey toward equality, and uplift the voices, culture, and contributions that continue to shape our nation.
