Not all of family medicine happens in the clinic.

This week, Colorado family physicians traded stethoscopes for conversations with Congress at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Family Medicine Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC. Alongside family physicians from across the country, we sat down with lawmakers to push for real, meaningful policy change on the issues that hit closest to home for our patients and our specialty.

On the agenda: strengthening oversight of Medicare Advantage plans, eliminating the $100,000 H-1B visa application fee that creates unnecessary barriers for physicians, and removing out-of-pocket costs for Medicare chronic care management so seniors can get the consistent, ongoing care they deserve.

We're honored to be a part of the conversation and grateful for the family physicians who made the trip to represent our state!

Since 1948, we've been dedicated to supporting family physicians and their patients, from statehouse proclamations and board installations to legislative advocacy and the exam room. Today, we celebrate our 78th birthday!

Looking back at these photos, we're reminded that our organization has always thrived because of passionate, dedicated individuals who believe in the power of family medicine to make a difference in communities.

Last week, CAFP joined nearly 70 healthcare organizations and advocates as part of the Mind Our Future Colorado coalition for a first-of-its-kind gubernatorial candidate forum focused entirely on youth mental health.

Colorado ranks 31st in the nation for youth mental health, and su***de remains a leading cause of death for youth under 18. This forum brought candidates from both parties to the table to discuss real solutions. Family physicians are on the front lines of this crisis every day, and we are proud to stand with this coalition in demanding action from Colorado's next governor. What a summit!

The 2026 CAFP Annual Summit brought Colorado's family medicine community together in Colorado Springs for four incredible days of learning, connection, and celebration. From cutting-edge CME sessions on AI in medicine, colon cancer screening, and endometriosis care to the annual awards luncheon and fellow convocation, this year's event reminded us why family medicine is the heart of healthcare.
