The bottle feeding guide you never got at discharge 🍼

Most parents are never taught how to bottle feed, it’s not your fault. Here’s what actually matters:

1. Position baby elevated, not flat baby’s head should be higher than their belly and chin neutral, not tucked into their chest. Chin tuck can make swallowing harder and restrict airflow during feeds.

2. Keep the bottle nearly horizontal The bottle doesn’t need to be tipped all the way down. Keeping it nearly horizontal controls milk flow and lets baby work for their feed, just like at the breast.

3. Give baby breaks and watch their cues Babies need pauses during feeds. Watch for slowing their suck, releasing the ni**le, or turning away these are baby’s way of saying slow down or I’m full.
This is called paced bottle feeding and it supports your baby’s feeding development and helps prevent overfeeding.
