The logic of Buddhist psychology.

💎💎💎✨
"All the qualities of Buddhas arise from the Six Paramitas and these arise from the Relative Bodhicitta, meaning love and compassion. If you possess love and compassion, all your actions will naturally become the Six Paramitas. Because a mother loves her child, she will not spare any expense and would never be stingy - this is generosity. She also does not want to hurt her child, which is ethical conduct. Even if the child is difficult, she will be patient. Never forgetting about her child and sustaining mindfulness and love for her child is meditative concentration. If she knows how things really are, she knows that all sentient beings have actually been her children, and that self and others, ultimately, are indivisible - this is wisdom. Thus, she will have compassion for all sentient beings with great equanimity, without discriminating between friends and enemies."

Your body will let you know. It might be a lot to hold, maybe even tremulous. But it might be the most genuine and brave and fearless way of all. (And Fleet Maull is a wise and gifted teacher!)

Broad construction …

A major shift in parenting is coming out of Scandinavia. Denmark is moving to end the cry it out baby method after a nationwide study showed it still exists in many municipalities. More than 700 psychologists have formally warned that leaving infants to cry without comfort causes damage to brain development and long-term attachment security.
Here is what the psychologists found. When babies are left to cry alone, their bodies flood with cortisol and adrenaline. These stress hormones are designed for life-threatening emergencies, not nightly bedtime routines. In developing brains, repeated exposure to high cortisol levels can actually alter the architecture of neural pathways responsible for emotional regulation, trust, and stress response. These changes can last well into adulthood.
The science behind attachment is well established. Infants have no ability to self-soothe. That skill develops gradually with the help of a responsive caregiver. When a baby cries and no one comes, the brain does not learn independence. It learns that the world is unsafe and that comfort will not arrive. This is not an opinion. It is developmental neuroscience supported by decades of research across multiple countries.
Comfort your baby when they cry. You cannot spoil an infant with attention. Pick them up, hold them close, and respond consistently. Denmark is catching on to what secure attachment cultures have known for generations. A held baby becomes a secure adult.
