She Who Knows

In mythology, seers were rarely celebrated for what they knew.

They were feared.

The gift of prophecy came with a terrible price, because to see the future was to stand outside ordinary human life. The seer could not live in innocence. They could not pretend not to know. They carried warnings before anyone was ready to hear them.

Cassandra saw the fall of Troy before it happened, yet Apollo cursed her so no one would believe her. Her tragedy was not ignorance. It was knowing the truth and watching everyone walk toward disaster anyway.

Tiresias was blind, yet became one of the greatest prophets in Greek myth. His sight was taken, but another vision opened. He could see what kings, heroes, and warriors could not. Still, that power did not make him free. It made him necessary, feared, and separate.

Even Odin, in Norse mythology, had to sacrifice an eye for wisdom. The message is ancient and brutal. True knowledge takes something from you.

Again and again, the seer is lonely, exiled, cursed, blinded, ignored, or destroyed. They are not powerful in the way kings are powerful. Their power is heavier. They speak what others deny. They name the danger before the danger arrives. They become unbearable because they reveal what people would rather keep hidden.

This is the real price of prophecy.

Not seeing the future.

Surviving the burden of knowing it.

The seer stands between fate and the living world, carrying a truth that may save people, ruin them, or be rejected until it is too late.

The confidence came after surviving things that were meant to break me.

What stands out to me is that people often assume confidence comes from success.

But more often, it comes from survival.

From discovering that your heart can be broken and still remain open.

That you can lose people, lose plans, lose versions of yourself you thought would be there forever…

and still find your way forward.

The feeling I keep getting is that confidence isn’t about believing nothing will hurt you.

It’s knowing you’ve already survived things you once thought you wouldn’t.
