But this is the general progression for the step-by-step how to teach a โจnew sound:
1๏ธโฃ Isolation: focus on getting ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ & saying the JUST the sound
2๏ธโฃ Syllables: put a vowel in front of the sound ("uh๐ค") or behind the sound ("๐คee") - see which one the child does better with & go from there!
3๏ธโฃ One syllable: consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) refers to the ๐๐ก๐๐๐ฉ๐๐๐จ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ข๐จ๐ก๐๐ฆ (aka "phonemes") in the word, NOT the actual letters, so "buc๐ค," although spelled CVCC is pronounced "b" / "uh" / "๐๐ค" CVC
4๏ธโฃ Multisyllabic: instead of the individual sounds (phonemes) in the word, now you're focusing on ๐ฆ๐ฌ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ. Start with 2 syllables ("awa๐คe") & move up as progress is made! (3 = "๐คangaroo," 4 = "๐คindergarten")
5๏ธโฃ Phrases: keep it ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฟ๐ (2-3 words) & play around with ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ you place target word in the phrase ("๐คeep going!" "that is ๐ool")
6๏ธโฃ Rotating sentences: use the ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ (ex: "he got a...") & rotate the target words into that phrase (ex: "he got a ๐ค๐๐ฒ", "he got a ๐ค๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ", "he got a ๐ค๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ง", etc)
7๏ธโฃ Unique sentences: now change up the sentences & play around with where you put the target words within the sentences!
8๏ธโฃ Stories/conversations: even if a child cannot yet read, you can & should choose stories & center conversations around ๐๐ผ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ ๐น๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฑ! This gradually teaches them to monitor themselves with larger discourse
