The conversation around mental performance in youth sports is growing — and tonight, KXAN is sharing the story behind Nui Sport.

This mission was built from real conversations with athletes, parents, coaches, counselors, and schools who know that performance is about so much more than stats and playing time.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with Austin High and continue building tools and support systems that help athletes strengthen confidence, resilience, focus, communication, and recovery.

One of my favorite moments from the event was hearing from a school counselor who came because she works with high-performing athletes and wanted to learn more about how we can better support them.

At Nui Sport, this isn’t about focusing on problems. It’s about giving athletes tools. Tools for confidence, communication, resilience, handling pressure, navigating setbacks, and building routines that support both performance and overall well-being.

The conversation around youth sports is evolving, and it’s been incredible seeing coaches, counselors, schools, parents, and community leaders all wanting to be part of it.

Really grateful for everyone who showed up, listened, shared, and supported the mission.

One of the simplest but most powerful tools shared with us:

Talk to yourself like you would talk to a teammate.

You’d never tell your teammate they’re a failure after one mistake.
You’d encourage them.
Support them.
Help them reset.

So why don’t we do the same for ourselves?

Your inner voice matters.
Confidence is built in the conversations you have with yourself every single day.

Parents, has your athlete ever been injured… and suddenly it feels like the whole world stops?

This weekend reminded me how hard these moments really are — not just physically, but emotionally too. For the athlete. For the parents. For the entire family.

In sports, we talk so much about mental toughness, resilience, and “bouncing back.” But sometimes, in the beginning, it just hurts.

And I want parents and athletes to hear this:
It’s okay if you don’t feel strong right away.

It’s okay if your child is emotional.
It’s okay if you’re emotional.
It’s okay if nobody is sleeping much.
It’s okay if it feels overwhelming for a couple of days.

You do not have to immediately flip a switch and become positive.

Sometimes healing starts with simply allowing yourself to feel it first.

Then, when the emotions settle…
we rebuild.
we refocus.
we support.
we grow stronger together.

That’s the part of youth sports people don’t talk about enough.

If you’ve walked through an injury with your athlete before, you know exactly what I mean. ❤️

This is bigger than sports. It’s about helping young athletes feel seen, supported, and equipped both on and off the field.

Last night was truly something special. ✨

Beyond the Scoreboard was more than just an event — it was a room full of people coming together for our athletes. Parents, coaches, community leaders, and former athletes all gathered with one shared goal: creating better support systems for the mental side of sports.

The honesty, vulnerability, wisdom, and passion from our panelists made the night unforgettable. The conversations were real, meaningful, and so needed. You could feel the connection in the room.

To every parent and coach who showed up ready to listen, learn, and grow for the kids in your lives — thank you. Change happens when communities come together like this.
