Jordan here—I'm glad to get this video out. I worked hard to come from/lead to a place of love.
Basically I'm calling a cultural blindspot I see sometimes crop up in personal growth and healing oriented communities "the trauma mindset."
Long story short, I think that the label “trauma” has done a ton of positive for us and brought a lot of compassion and awareness, but the word now brings with it a whole mindset that’s often not helping people (actually it’s often hurting them!).
I also see the basics of relateful practices offering a healthier alternative to move us towards more honest and compassionate ways of navigating the world.
I now personally save the use of the word for very extreme circumstances, and instead advocate for: being more precise about what's happening for me in the moment, honor the gifts of our past, see life as connected and collaborative, own my needs and encourage others to do the same, and come from an empowered and creative stance towards the world through my meaning making (since I usually cant control what happens and especially cant control what happened)
