Mi hita, you were never inadequate. We were just marketed to.

The first lie: “midwives are dirty and dumb”.
It swayed some women, but not enough.

The second lie: “midwives are actually witches, and work for the devil”.
They couldn’t discredit them, so they burned them.

When those two efforts didn’t FULLY destroy the practice - they got creative.

The third lie: “Doctors can offer PAIN FREE LABOR”.

And voilà. The hospital birth trend skyrocketed and became the norm.

But is it really “pain free”, or are we just transferring the pain to another aspect of the journey?

They love to come at you and tell you to stop talking about medicine.

It doesn’t phase me, because they’ve been doing it to my people for thousands of years.

Twisting and perverting a sacred word to mean ONLY drugs and surgery. Reserved for those willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to be labeled worthy.

Are we grateful for advancement? Absolutely.

But erasure won’t fly. Our ancestors were murdered, our records burned, our practices outlawed.

And yet - we still remember.

Because the truth can’t be destroyed, and the medicine is still inside of us.
