Happiness Happens Month is the perfect reminder that joy is worth practicing, not just waiting for. This August, try building a few small habits into your week:

✨ Write down three things you are grateful for each morning.
✨ Take five quiet minutes to breathe and be present before your day starts.
✨ Do one kind thing for someone else, even something small.

At Friends of ASH, we see every day how small moments of happiness can support someone's mental health journey. This month, we invite you to practice gratitude and mindfulness alongside us. 💙

It’s Share a Hug Day! 🫂

In a season of mental health awareness, let's remember something simple but profound: human connection heals. A hug from someone you trust. A hand squeeze. A moment of being fully seen by another person. These acts of physical kindness matter more than we sometimes realize, especially for people navigating mental health challenges. 💙

If you can give a hug tomorrow, do it. If you can't, send a message of warmth instead. Connection in any form says: "I see you. You matter. You're not alone."

What a wonderful evening at J. McLaughlin! 🛍️✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for shopping, drinks, nibbles, and community in support of Friends of ASH. Because of your generosity, proceeds from the event will help fund recovery programs and resources for individuals at Austin State Hospital. 💙

We’re so grateful to for hosting this special event and to every guest who came out to support mental health and recovery in our community!

Behind every program, every smile, every moment of progress at Austin State Hospital, there's a community of volunteers and supporters who believe in the power of hope. Our volunteers show up every week because they understand something fundamental: healing is possible.

We're grateful for the people who fuel this mission, and we're inspired by the patients and staff who embrace each day with courage. If you've felt moved by the work we do, consider joining us. 💙

The numbers matter. They tell the story of mental health disparities that millions face every day. Here's what the research shows:

-Black Americans are 10% more likely to experience serious psychological distress than white Americans.
-Only 1 in 3 Black Americans who need mental health treatment actually receive it.
-Latinx individuals face barriers including stigma, language access, and limited culturally competent care.
-Asian Americans are less likely to seek support, despite facing similar or higher rates of mental illness.
-LGBTQ+ individuals are 4 times more likely to attempt su***de than their non-LGBTQ+ peers.

This Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we're listening, learning, and committed to building a mental health system that works for everyone.

Summer mental health tip: You don't have to go big to feel better. ☀️

Sometimes the simplest things work the best:
🍃 Spend time in nature, even if it's 15 minutes
🚶 Move your body in whatever way feels good
💧 Drink more water. Sleep a little longer
🫂 Call someone you care about
📖 Journal your thoughts
🧘♀️ Take three deep breaths.

This summer, give yourself permission to slow down and care for yourself without guilt. Your mental health is worth the effort. 💙
