Do you recognize any of these in your relationship?
-Repeated criticism or being told you’re “too sensitive”
-Gaslighting — your own memories denied or rewritten
-Being blamed for someone else’s anger
-Silence or affection used as punishment
-Cruelty followed by apologies and promises to change
-Your friendships, time, finances or decisions being controlled
One of these alone might be explainable. Several, as part of your everyday life, is worth a harder question: is this relationship emotionally abusive?
It often doesn’t look the way people expect. It can be very subtle and confusing. There may be real love, real tenderness. That’s part of what makes it so hard to see clearly.
You are not too sensitive. You are not imagining it. And there is a way back.
If you’ve been asking yourself how did I get here, or feel like you’ve lost yourself somewhere along the way — please reach out.
