Hospice Austin's Christopher House

Christopher House is the inpatient facility for Hospice Austin, the oldest nonprofit hospice serving the Austin area.

We began accepting patients at Christopher House in 1997, providing compassionate, around‑the‑clock care to those at the end of life.

Big news! Hospice Austin & Austin Palliative Care have officially joined the Memory Care Excellence Network (MCEN) and are currently the only hospice organization in the nation to receive this recognition from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.

As the number of people living with dementia continues to grow, so does the need for specialized care that addresses the unique challenges patients and families face. We're committed to meeting that need through advanced dementia training and certification across our care teams. Currently, over half of our frontline staff are Certified Dementia Practitioners, with a goal of reaching 100%.

We're proud to serve Central Texas with compassionate, expert care and excited to continue expanding our leadership in dementia-focused hospice and palliative care.

There is no "right way" to grieve, and no one should have to walk that path alone.

During National Grief Awareness Month, we want you to know that support is available. Hospice Austin offers 8-week grief groups for adults experiencing the loss of a parent, sibling, adult child, spouse/partner, and a Men's Grief Group. We also provide grief counseling for individuals, couples, and families.

With both in-person and virtual options available, we're committed to making support accessible. Our online groups and webinars are open to anyone, no matter where they live.

Caring for a loved one with dementia can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our caregiver group provides a welcoming space to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of dementia caregiving. This is a free event open to anyone in the community.

Share experiences, learn practical advice, find encouragement, and build meaningful relationships with people who truly understand what you're going through.

Hospice Austin & Austin Palliative Care offers the most comprehensive bereavement program of any hospice in Austin, and these support groups are open to anyone in the community who is coping with the loss of a loved one. Whether your loss is recent or occurred years ago, you don't have to navigate grief alone.

Meet the newest volunteer at Hospice Austin's Christopher House. This is Erin and her dog Eli, a five-year-old Vizsla.

Erin chose to volunteer at Hospice Austin because she believes that hospice care represents some of the very best of humanity. "During such a profound time in people's lives, even a few moments of comfort, connection, or a reason to smile can make a meaningful difference. The smile on a patient's face as Eli gently kissed their hand is an image I will never forget," she said.

Eli is such a special therapy dog. "What I've come to appreciate most isn't what he learned—it's the quiet way he connects with people. He seems to instinctively know when someone needs companionship, and it's a joy to watch," she said.

There are beautiful moments, even at the end of life. We’re grateful for organizations like Swan Songs - Austin, a nonprofit bringing live music to those with terminal illness. This moment was captured during a concert at Hospice Austin's Christopher House, where one patient requested gospel songs.
