How many times a day do you end up leaning against a counter or table?
Standing and having a conversation, doing dishes, folding laundry, packing lunches, opening mail, putting away groceries, cooking, food prepping....the list goes on.
When you lean against a surface around hip height, you have a tendency to go into what we call "anterior pelvic tilt" and it puts your lumbar spine, or low back, into extension. This position on it's own is totally natural and normal but when you hang out in that position over and over, throughout the day, day after day; well it can lead to overloading your low back and possibly pain.
These are some of the things I look at with patients and something we work to improve.
Having persistent back pain? I challenge you to check yourself tomorrow and see how often you fall into this position. Sometimes we have movement habits we aren't even aware of that can be contributing to pain without us realizing it.
Let me know in the comments how common this is for you!
