If your acne is red, inflamed, tender, or cystic, this is the type of routine I usually reach for first.

For inflamed acne, my three must-haves are:

Acne Gel — benzoyl peroxide to target acne-causing bacteria

CytoClear — mandelic, azelaic, and lactic acids to help with clogged follicles, inflammation, and post-breakout marks

HylaVera — lightweight hydration to support the skin barrier so your routine stays tolerable and consistent

If you already have a skincare routine and you’re wondering what to add or replace, these are the three products I would look at first.

And make sure your cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, makeup, and hair products are not working against you with pore-clogging ingredients.

Inflamed acne needs a targeted routine, not more random spot treatments.

Back-to-school acne is a real thing… just maybe not for the reason you think.

I see this happen with my teen clients all the time.

We get their acne clear, summer starts, and everything is going great. So they miss their skincare routine one night. Nothing happens.

Then they miss another night.

Still clear.

Pretty soon, they’re thinking, Maybe I don’t even need this stuff anymore.

Then school starts and suddenly their skin is breaking out like crazy.

And guess what gets blamed?

School. Stress. Hormones.

Meanwhile, the problem may have started months earlier.

Acne doesn’t magically appear the day you see a pimple. What’s happening inside the pore has been developing beneath the surface long before that breakout shows up.

That’s why I tell my teens: maintenance products are what KEEP you clear.

You wouldn’t stop brushing your teeth because you didn’t have a cavity today. Your acne routine works the same way.

Getting clear is only half the job. Staying clear requires consistency.

So if your teen’s skin suddenly seems to be going backward as school starts, don’t panic—and don’t throw five new acne products at their face.

Get back to the routine that was working.

Taking spironolactone for acne does not mean you can skip a topical acne routine.

Spironolactone can help reduce hormone-driven oil production, but it does not clear clogged pores, remove dead skin cells, or directly control acne-causing bacteria.

That means you still need acne treatment products that address the full acne cycle.

A consistent topical routine can help support clearer skin while you are taking spironolactone, and it can also make the transition easier if you eventually decide to stop.

You are not automatically stuck on spironolactone forever. With the right treatment plan, clear skin is still possible.

One of my clients sent me this while camping on the beach in Hawaii and I loved it so much. She has truly trusted the process and followed everything I’ve recommended for her skin. This kind of consistency is a big part of why clients get results. I’m so proud of her and I seriously cannot wait to show you all her before and after. Grab the LED light in our store!

Salt water can make your skin look better after a beach day, but that does not mean it is actually clearing your acne.

The salt can dry surface oil and make pimples look flatter for a little while. Acne forms deeper inside the follicle, where oil and dead skin cells become trapped. Drying the surface does not remove that clog or prevent new breakouts from forming.

Too much salt water can also leave your skin dehydrated, irritated, and more sensitive to your acne products.

After swimming, rinse with fresh water, cleanse gently, and use CalmRest Mist and HylaVera to calm the skin and restore lightweight hydration.

Enjoy the beach. Just do not count on the ocean to treat your acne.

If your skin blew up after stopping birth control, I want you to hear this:

You didn’t cause this. And you’re not stuck like this.

Post-pill acne is often driven by hormonal changes that increase oil production and inflammation—especially along the jawline and chin.

That’s why I included a simple routine slide in this post — because prevention is about doing the same right things consistently (not chasing trends).

Start simple. Stay consistent.

If you want clear skin without relying on birth control, we can do that.
