I love large and atypical hernias. This is before and after open flank hernia repair. Many of these can done robotically but I chose to excise some excessive skin during his hernia repair.

Denying someone surgery and optimizing someone for surgery are two different things. This patient was denied surgery noting they needed optimization prior to surgery. Patient proceed to lose their job, lose 100 pounds and continued smoking and returned a year later with the same problem. If you have been denied surgery, we can work with you to get to a place where you are optimized for the best surgical outcome.

This is the second inguinal hernia recurrence this week with a mesh plug. These are not recommend for inguinal hernia repairs by the American Hernia Society yet they are still on the shelf and commonly used. There are two types of inguinal hernias so putting this in one hernia space doesn’t protect you from getting a hernia in the adjacent space unlike a Lichtenstein repair.
