There are a lot of myths about what we do at Cancer Rehab and Integrative Medicine, especially when it comes to holistic oncology care. So, we asked our team to share what they wish more people understood about their specialties.

Meet Erin Dean, our pelvic floor therapist. When asked about the biggest misconception in her field, Erin shared: “Many people think pelvic floor PT is just for incontinence. That’s only part of the story. I also help with pelvic pain, difficulties with pe*******on, libido changes, erectile issues, shifts in relationship dynamics, body image, and reconnecting with the erotic self.”

Pelvic health is about so much more than you might realize—and you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. If you have questions or want to learn more, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

“Begin again, especially on ordinary days.” – Pema Chödrön

One of our patients shared this quote, finding deep meaning in it during their cancer treatment journey. Sometimes, the most powerful healing happens in the quiet moments—when we choose to start fresh, even on days that feel routine.

What does “begin again” mean to you? Whether you’re a survivor, thriver, or caregiver, we’d love to hear your perspective in the comments. Your story could inspire someone else today.

Even in the summer, soups can be a nourishing, easy way to fuel your body with protein, calories, and all the veggies you need to thrive during cancer treatment and beyond.

🌱 Why soups work: They’re soothing, hydrating, and low effort—perfect for busy days or when you need a little comfort. Try these combos:
🍲 Lentil soup, chicken soup, or bone broth-based soup
➕ Pair with a protein side:
• Half grilled cheese
• Egg on toast
• Yogurt or cottage cheese

✨ Warm foods can help calm the nervous system and support healing.

We want to hear from you! What’s your favorite soup? Do you have a go-to recipe or tip to share? Drop it in the comments and inspire our community. Let’s cook and heal together!

🚫 MYTH: Treatment for lymphedema is a long, painful ordeal.
✅ FACT: Most people work with a certified lymphedema therapist for just 4–8 weeks to learn the skills they need to manage lymphedema confidently and independently.
While lymphedema requires lifelong self-management, intensive clinic treatment is typically short-term. And when compression bandaging is applied correctly, it should not be painful or keep you from participating in your daily activities.
One of the biggest barriers to getting help is fear of the unknown. The truth? Effective lymphedema treatment is designed to support your comfort, mobility, and quality of life.
If you’ve been putting off treatment because you thought it would be overwhelming, this is your reminder: help is available, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. 💙
Have questions about lymphedema therapy? Drop them below or reach out to our team—we’re here to help.

We’re so grateful for this wonderful review of our oncology massage therapist! Your kind words remind us why we do what we do—helping you feel comfortable, supported, and cared for every step of the way. Ready to experience the healing power of oncology massage? We’d love to see you at Cancer Rehab Austin!

"Theresa solved a shoulder/arm problem for me with her therapeutic massage techniques. She had a variety of things she tried until she found one (or combo of things) that worked. I really appreciate that when I come for a session, she is prepared with a plan, but always takes the time ask how things have been with my issue before executing the plan in case modifications are needed. She is professional and really knows her stuff!"

It is that time of year again! Our director of rehab Angela Wicker-Ramos was honored to do an her annual lecture for the doctoral physical therapy program at Texas Stare University on “How to Safely and Effectively Work with the Oncology Population.” These students are about to go out on their clinical rotations at the end of their program and were bright eyed, bushy tailed and eager to learn. Thank you Texas State for including this important topic in your doctoral program curriculum.
