Good news! The power is back on at Chuck’s House! I wish I could say the same about the water!! This morning I thought about the last few days and how they’ve gone. We lost power last Sunday night and have been without water for about 36 hours. That means we’ve been shoveling and melting snow for certain things and let me tell ya it takes a lot of snow to make a little water!!! Through all of this I heard not one word of complaint, no whining, no self pity, no nonsense out of any of the guys here. They were having to use 3 comforters to stay warm at night!!! What I did hear was, I’m going to call and check on my family, should we check on the neighbors?, how can we help, let me ride with you to the store in case you get stuck, what should we do next. It turned out that one of the neighbors was in need and we were able to share plenty of bottled water with them. The guys thought of others before themselves and that is what it’s all about!!

Hi friends and happy Monday (yes I used those two words in the same sentence). I hope this post finds you safe and well!
Since COVID-19 made its appearance I’ve heard over and over, “I can’t go to Treatment or Sober Living during a pandemic, it’s too risky to live in a group home type environment”.
While I can understand that mindset, that thinking, in my opinion, is flawed. Nobody wants to catch the Coronavirus that’s for sure but friends, if you have the disease of Addicition like I do, NOT seeking help, REFUSING help because of the group environment is a much more risky decision (excuse). We never really know if that next drink, pill, or shot is going to be our last.

COVID-19 is here, it’s a fact of life, period. We can run and hide like we did from so many things in our addiction or we can get on with life taking every precaution we can against contracting that damn virus. I’ve reduced the maximum capacity here from 9 down to 6 for better social distancing, frequent sanitizing of all surfaces and all dishes and silverware, frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer, and the use of UV-C lamps twice a week for entire house (room by room) sanitizing / disinfecting are some of the precautions we take.

If it is time to seek help and you are concerned about the group environment and COVID-19, ask questions of whatever place you are considering, ask a hundred questions and don’t stop until you are satisfied that a Sober Living home or treatment center is and will do everything possible to keep the location coronavirus free.

If you need help please, PLEASE reach out! Don’t put it off another day, yesterday you said tomorrow!
