93% of our communication is non-verbal, but most of us still focus on what we say (the words) as opposed to how we say it (our presence). Before I speak on stage, I always find a quiet corner and get my body ready before I worry about what I’m going to say. This is my go-to: candle breath to release jitters, belly breathing to pull the breath down and out of my chest and shoulders, and slow nasal inhales to feel grounded. When I’m calm in my body, the audience tends to settle in theirs too.

What’s your go to for getting ready for public speaking?

Are you craving connecting with your inner confidence?

We all have access to it at all times, sometimes it just takes an intentional practice to shift how you’ve been feeling and tap into your radiant feminine power.

That’s what we’ll be doing together next Tuesday night, but this time with more giveaways, sponsored products and take home resources than ever before. Join us for the next breathwork experience for Austin women at 630pm at Creative Collective.

DM or comment the word EVENT and I’ll send you the link to register. $45 until spots are available - we’re 1/3rd full already and we’d love to share this evening with you! 🤍

Stress changes your breath before you even notice, and most women never learn which patterns help and which ones just keep the body stuck in stress.

Here are 9 breath patterns ranked from worst to best -

Bad: Chest breathing. Quick, shallow breaths that go into the upper chest. This is not a technique, it’s just what stress does by default, and it keeps your body in a bracing pattern.

Good: Box breathing. Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four. Research shows this steadies the nervous system and builds vagal tone.

Better: Coherent breathing. A slow, even rhythm around six breaths per minute [inhale for 5 seconds, exhale for 5 seconds]. This pace is one of the most effective ways to improve heart rate variability and balance your stress response.

Bad: Mouth breathing. Quick, open mouth breaths during stress. Research shows this increases stress and lowers HRV, making it harder for your body to recover.

Good: Nasal breathing. Simply closing the mouth and breathing through the nose at a normal pace. This alone shifts the body toward a calmer, rest and digest state.

Better: Slow nasal breathing. The same nasal route, slowed to around six breaths per minute. Research links this pace to lower anxiety, and the nose itself releases a compound that helps oxygen reach your tissues more effectively.

Bad: Breath holding. That moment your shoulders creep up and your breath gets stuck at the top of an inhale without you noticing. It locks the body in tension.

Good: Extended exhale breathing. Inhale for 4 counts through the nose, exhale for 6-8 counts through the mouth. Slow breathing with a longer exhale has been shown to reduce both the physical and emotional stress.

Better: Humming. An exhale with a gentle hum, lips closed, letting the vibration move through your chest. Early research suggests this may calm the nervous system even more than slow breathing alone.

Follow as I break down each one of these in the upcoming videos so you never have to guess again.

Summer so far 🤍… Launched The Exhale Podcast with Marina Kay, had a retreat in Connecticut, visited the captain François in NYC for a few days to reconnect with the old stomping grounds, lots of breathwork private sessions, hosted 2 events in Westlake, moderated an amazing panel at the BLŪM event & more 🫶

If you’re waiting for a perfect time to do something I have news for you.
It doesn’t exist.
You just have to do it now, as soon as possible, and learn from it.
Life will continue life-ing. There is no true break in adulthood. Something’s always up, something is always misaligned or imperfect.

Tony Robbins always says - your level of happiness is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty you can handle.

I recorded a meditation on *Finding Peace Amidst Uncertainty* for Insight Timer this week. Find me under Marina Kay if you’re on the app :)

DM or comment PODCAST and I’ll send you a link to the first season. The next episode with Dr. Natalie Crawford releases in July. 🤍
