Deb Dana, LCSW, coined the phrase "glimmers". We have the opportunity every day to experience this!
The concept of glimmers was introduced by psychotherapist Deb Dana in her 2018 book The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy to describe the opposite of triggers.
While triggers alert the nervous system to danger and stress, glimmers are small, positive moments that signal safety, calm, and connection. These can be simple everyday experiences—like a kind smile, soothing music, or warm sunlight—that gently shift the body into a more relaxed state.
By noticing and embracing glimmers, individuals can support emotional regulation and gradually build a greater sense of safety within themselves.
