Last night, members of our team had the honor of attending opening night of the Cine Las Américas International Film Festival as the official mental health partner of this year’s festival. We watched American Pachuco, a powerful film centered around the work and legacy of Luis Valdez and the Chicano Movement.
The film explored identity, belonging, culture, grief, resistance, and the deeply layered experience of being Chicano, Latino, Tejano, Mexicano — often feeling connected to many places while still searching for home within yourself.
As mental health professionals, these are stories we witness every day in the therapy room. So many people are carrying the wounds, silence, survival, and resilience of generations before them while trying to make sense of who they are and where they belong.
There was something incredibly powerful about sitting in community with people who are committed to telling these stories through film, art, and lived experience. Representation matters. Storytelling matters. Community healing matters.
We are deeply grateful to support a festival that honors culture, history, artistry, and the voices of people who lived these experiences. 🤎
