Absolutely—and that’s actually a sign that healing is progressing exactly as expected.

At this stage, your body is still actively remodeling the scar and bringing blood supply to the area to support healing. That increased circulation is what gives scars their pink appearance during the early months after surgery.

The exciting part is that scar maturation continues for up to a year and often beyond. As the months pass, the blood supply gradually decreases, the scar softens, and the color typically fades closer to your natural skin tone.

One of my favorite things to remind patients is that healing doesn’t stop when the incision closes. Your body continues improving the scar long after surgery, and some of the most beautiful changes happen between 6 and 12 months.
