MURPHYSBORO – Selena McBride, 71, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at SIH Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, Illinois.

Selena was born on July 27, 1955, in Anna, IL, to David F. and Jewel E. (Brown) Sronce. She was self-employed and a member of Elks Lodge #572, Murphysboro, IL.

Selena is survived by her brother, Roger Sronce of Vergennes, IL, her niece and caretaker, Sheryl Holland of Willisville, IL, her numerous nieces and nephews and her army of Elks brothers and sisters.

Selena was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joe Sronce and her sister, Judy Blazier.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, 1:00 pm, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, IL, with Pastor Steven Duncan officiating. Burial to follow at Ava Evergreen Cemetery, Ava, IL. Visitation will be Monday morning, August 31, 2026, where friends may call from 11:00 am until time of service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at The Elks Lodge, Murphysboro, IL, from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. CUTLER – Delores J. Myers, 99, of Cutler, passed away at 5:25 am, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Pinckneyville Hospital, Pinckneyville, Illinois.

Delores was born in Perry County, Illinois, on May 21, 1927, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Browning Benedict. She married Charles R. Myers on October 21, 1950 in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2024. Delores was a member of Denmark Baptist Church, Cutler, Illinois.

Delores is survived by her children, Pat (Bob) Smith of Cutler, Jean (Richard) Maiocco of Peoria, AZ, Scott Myers of Cutler, IL, and Kellie Hunter of Marion, IL; grandchildren, Kent, Lee, Kyle, Kristin, Ryan, Seth Nicholas, and Brett; and great grandchildren, Nathan, Jack, Owen, Tate, and Teller.

Delores was also preceded in death by her Parents; one sister; and five brothers.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Marty DeRoche officiating. Burial will follow at Cottom Cemetery, Cutler, Illinois. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, on Sunday from Noon until 2 pm. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Donor’s Choice.

AVA – Albert Rabe, 77, of Ava, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at home in Ava, Illinois.

Albert was born in Sparta, Illinois, on July 5, 1949, the son of Harold and Marie Schwarz Rabe. He married Tina Reuscher on June 26, 1976, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill. He was a retired Pressman from Sparta Printing and worked at ComPac International and was a veteran of the US Air Force. Albert was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill and the American Legion Post #1096, Campbell Hill.

Albert is survived by his wife, Tina Rabe of Ava; children, Tanya Henry of Owensboro, KY, Aaron Rabe of Ava and Kelly Rabe of Ava; grandson, Austin; sister-in-law, Renda Rabe of Coulterville, IL; brothers-in-law, Terry (Rosa) Reuscher of Round Rock, TX, Tony (Dawn) Reuscher of Evansville, IN and Ted (Sharon) Reuscher of Ava; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Albert was preceded in death by his Parents; two brothers, Arthur W. (Ruth) Rabe and Ralph Rabe; sister, Marie (Frank) Thoms; and niece, Janel Rabe.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 11:00 am, with Deacon Ben Nikodym officiating, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Campbell Hill. Visitation will be at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church on Thursday from 9 am until 11 am. SPARTA - Myla S. Ashley, 72, of Sparta, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Myla was born in Red Bud, Illinois, along with her twin sister, Lyla, on November 14, 1953, to Wilbert and Alberta (Eggemeyer) Sternberg. She wed her high school sweetheart, Tom Ashley, on June 15, 1974, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Walsh. He survived. Myla was a member of the Sparta First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1971, and began working at the Evansville Shoe Factory, and a short time later, started working at Sparta Printing in the Bindery Department and worked there until it closed in 1996. A short time later, she began working at Sparta Wal-Mart and helped set up the new Wal-Mart store. She retired in 2015.

Myla loved being a mom and later a doting grandma. She missed very few of her grandsons’ baseball games, sometimes going to two games on the same night in two different towns. Baking and decorating cookies with her granddaughters became an annual holiday tradition. Myla looked forward to summer vacations in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, the Columbus Day weekend family trips to Branson, and spending a winter week in Seagrove Beach, Florida.

Along with her husband, Myla is survived by her mother, Alberta Sternberg of Chester; daughter, Melissa (David) Castens of Sparta; son, Brad (Bridgett) Ashley of Freeport, FL; sister, Lyla (Larry) Inselman of Chester; grandchildren, Caleb Gailey (Mariah Hemker), Austin Gailey, Carly Castens, Seth Castens, Drake (Michaela) Castens, and Sydney Castens; sisters-in-law, Nancy Ashley (Mike Colson) and Rena Cundiff; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death was her father, Wilbert Sternberg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gene and Wanda Ashley; and grandparents, Harry and Lillie Sternberg and George and Frederica Eggemeyer.

Funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Sparta, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Leslie Chalupny officiating. Burial will follow at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 8:30 am until 11 am. STEELEVILLE – Judith “Judy” McSmith, 83, of Steeleville, passed away at 8:55 am, Friday, August 7, 2026 at Coulterville Care Center, Coulterville, Illinois.

Judith was born in Belleville, Illinois, on March 20, 1943, the daughter of Andrew E. and Pauline A. Hentze Bass. She married Raymond R. “Dick” McSmith in Steeleville on November 30, 1963, he preceded her in death on October 2, 2004. She was a Tupper Ware Manager for many years and worked at the Drug Store for several years in Steeleville. Judy was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville and Steeleville Eagles Aerie #3960 Auxiliary. She loved going on family outings fishing and camping. She loved baking and was in a card club with friends for many years. Judy was an avid college basketball fan. She loved spending time with family and friends.

Judy is survived by two children, Cheri (Stan) Buchheit of Chester, IL and Rob (Carla) McSmith of Steeleville; grandchildren, Ashley (Kevin) Westmoreland, Brandon Buchheit, Alli (Spencer) Craig, Rayme (Ethan) Feldmann and Nathan McSmith; and great grandchildren, Maggie, Lane and Charlotte.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald Bass; and great granddaughter, Macy.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 11:00 am, at Peace Lutheran Church, Steeleville, with Parish Ministry Assistant Julie Posth officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Steeleville, where friends may call on Monday from 5 pm until 8 pm, then on Tuesday from 7:30 am until 9 am, and 10 am until 11 am at the church. Ashley was born in Murphysboro, Illinois, on November 5, 1987, the daughter of Thomas and Angela Rigdon Schroder. She was a Licensed Massage Therapist. Ashley attended Ava Assembly of God Church, Ava, Illinois.

Ashley is survived by two daughters, Dixie Murray and Faith Murray both of Ava; her mother, Angela Beisner of Ava; brother, Chris (Felicity) Schroeder of Rawlins, WY; two nieces; two nephews; grandmother, Karen Smith of Ava; grandfather, John Schroeder of Rockwood, IL; father, Tom Schroeder of Murphysboro; and uncles, Joe Rigdon of Ava, Mike Schroeder of Rockwood, IL, Larry Schroeder of Ava.

Ashley was preceded in death by Grandpa Gale Rigdon; Grandpa Robert Smith; Grandpa Russell Wingerter; Grandmother Mary Schroeder; Uncle Jimmy Rigdon Uncle, Rodger Schroeder, and Uncle Jim Schroeder.

MURPHYSBORO – Beverley Jarrett, 83, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at her home in Murphysboro, Illinois.

Beverley was born on November 29, 1942, in Murphysboro, IL, to Gene Herbert and Mary H. (Gregersen) Heiple. She married Dan Jarrett on September 28, 1963, at Murphysboro First Christian Church. Beverley was a member of First Christian Church, Murphysboro, IL and attended United Methodist Church, Murphysboro, IL. She was retired from Murphysboro School District after 20 plus years of service.

The family would like to thank Matt & Hayley with Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Beverley is survived by her husband, Dan Jarrett of Murphysboro, IL, her daughter, Kim (Bryan) Barringer of Murphysboro, IL, her grandchildren: Kyle Barringer of St. Peters, MO, Logan Barringer of Murphysboro, IL; her great grandson, Kade Barringer, her brothers: Robert (Marsha) Heiple of Gorham, IL, Louie (Bonnie) Heiple of Ava, IL; her brother-in-law, Kenny (Diann) Jarrett of Jacob, IL, her sister-in-law, Kay (Wally) Littlefield of Sunset Hills, MO, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beverley was preceded in death by her parents, her niece, Amy (Matt) Hamel and great nephew, Seth Hamel.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, 11:00 am, at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, IL, with Rev. Michelle Clark officiating. Burial to follow at Glenn Cemetery, Rockwood, IL. WILLISVILLE – Carol Jean Arndt Knop, 87, of Willisville, passed away at 7:26 pm, Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Carol was born in Steeleville, Illinois, on October 5, 1938, the daughter of Ferd and Nina Jacoby Bierman. She married Leland H. Arndt, on March 16, 1957. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1994. She then married Wilbert “Wib” Knop on July 5, 1997. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2015. Carol was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church Post Oak, Campbell Hill. She was a Homemaker and retired from Arch of Illinois Captain Mine.

Carol is survived by her two sons, Jerry (Cheryl) Arndt of Willisville and Alan (Amanda) Arndt of Willisville; her grandchildren, Matthew (Kayla) Arndt, Steven Arndt, Kristine (Ryan) Heiman, Addison Arndt and Aaron Arndt; her great grandchildren, Hayden Arndt, Liam Brand, Jesslyn Arndt, Iliana Arndt, Nora Arndt, Tyson Heiman and Gracie Heiman; Wib’s children, Perry (Sheila Simon) Knop, Brian (Tammy) Knop, Andrea (Nathan) Lindenfelter, Darrick (Alison) Knop; his daughter-in-law, Sheila Stevenson; Wib’s several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her sister, Sharon Cox of LasVegas, NV.

Carol was also preceded in death by her Parents; Wib’s son, Michael Knop; and sister, Myrna Dierks.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 am, at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Post Oak) Campbell Hill, with Vicar Anne Terry and Minister Deb Rathert officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery (Post Oak), Campbell Hill. Visitation will be the church on Monday, from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church (Post Oak)
