I cringe every time I see this promise on a breathwork ad.
Someone does a breathwork session. They feel something big. The facilitator says “you just resolved your trauma.”
And the client believes them. Because of course they do. The person holding the session said it with total confidence. They had a certificate on the wall. They had thousands of followers.
But…
Trauma is not something to be healed in the way we keep promising it can be.
The memory doesn’t disappear. The pain doesn’t get erased. And a facilitator who tells you otherwise is setting you up to feel like you failed when the old patterns show back up. And they will. Sometimes immediately.
What actually shifts over time is this. The event stops controlling your daily life. Your nervous system stops treating an old memory like a current threat. Your future choices stop being made from that place of survival.
That’s what resolution looks like. Not forgetting. Not erasing. Losing the charge.
One breathwork session can crack something open. It can give you access to a feeling you’ve been avoiding for a decade. That’s real, and I’m not dismissing it.
But one session is not the whole journey. And promising that it is gives people false hope.
If you’re training to facilitate or you’re already out there doing sessions, please be the person who sets realistic expectations. Your clients are coming to you because they want change. They want to feel better. They are counting on you.
The fact that you’re even reading this tells me you already care more than most.
Save this and send it to someone in the breathwork world who needs to hear it.
