🎃 Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips for a Happy Halloween!🎃

As you and your little ghosts and goblins prepare for trick-or-treating, remember some safety basics to make the night fun and safe. Walk together or in groups, sticking to well-lit neighborhoods and always using sidewalks or paths. Reflective tape or glow sticks help kids stay visible, especially in the evening. Make sure costumes fit well to avoid trips and falls, and remind your child to look both ways when crossing the street. Finally, check all treats before letting your child enjoy them. By taking a few simple steps, we can ensure Halloween is filled with treats and happy memories!

As the school year kicks off, keeping our kids healthy and happy is more important than ever! At Rub Pediatrics, we're here to help you navigate this busy time with some essential back-to-school health tips:

1. Routine check ups: Ensure your child's health is in tip-top shape with a routine check up. We're here to address any concerns and keep your kiddos on track.
2. Eating healthy: Pack balanced lunches and snacks to fuel their brains and bodies for a productive school day.
3. Adequate sleep: Establish a consistent sleep routine to ensure your child gets the rest they need to thrive academically and socially.
4. Hand Hygiene: Trach the importance of regular hand washing to minimize the spread of germs.
5. Mental Health: Encourage open conversations about their school experiences and emotions to support their mental well-being.

Tip Tuesday!
Summer months tend to draw children and adults of all ages outside. Here are some safety tips to protect your little ones during their outdoor adventures:

Heat Safety: The hottest time of the day is from 10am – 2pm. Watch children closely for signs of heat exhaustion, such as excessive sweating, dizziness or nausea. Ensure children stay hydrated with water breaks every 10-15 minutes and a fruit or protein bar every 1-2 hours in a shaded cool area. Avoid sugary drinks and opt for a cold water. Follow Government recommendations for protection against excess heat and elevated UV Index.

Sun Protection: Keep children guarded against harmful UV rays by wearing protective gear such as Ultra Violet Light Protective Clothing (UPF) or/and applying sunscreen with a SPF 30 or higher. Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours!

Insect Safety: Prevent bug bites by using insect repellant and dressing children in light-colored clothing. Insect repellant can also be sprayed on clothing instead of spraying directly on the skin. Environmentally friendly repellants are recommended and should contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus (check the ingredients before purchasing).

By following these precautions, everyone can enjoy a safe and fun-filled summer while outdoors.
