Think lactic acid is causing your sore muscles? Think again! 💪

The soreness you feel a day or two after exercise is usually Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)—part of your body’s natural repair and adaptation process.

Massage doesn’t “flush out lactic acid,” but it can help reduce tension and stiffness, support relaxation, and help you move more comfortably while your body recovers.

Read my latest blog to learn what’s really happening inside your muscles—and why recovery matters 👉 https://www.miraschoppe.com/blog/2026/6/13/august-1-the-truth-about-lactic-acid-and-muscle-soreness

"Lactic acid buildup" is one of the most common explanations for sore muscles—but it isn't actually what's causing that stiffness a day or two after exercise. Whether you've been hiking, biking, skiing, strength training, or simply trying something new, learn what really causes muscle sore

Do you ever wake up with a stiff neck and think, “I must have slept wrong”?

Sometimes that’s true—but often, neck tension has been building for days, weeks, or even months.

In my latest blog, I share my own experience with severe neck pain caused by years of repetitive movement while snowboarding—and the surprisingly simple changes that helped me recover and stay pain-free.

I also explore:

✨ Why stress settles into the neck and shoulders
📱 How screens and posture contribute to “tech neck”
🤕 The connection between neck tension and headaches
💆‍♀️ How massage can help your body reset
🎾 A simple self-release technique you can try at home

Your body is adaptable. With awareness, movement, and the right support, it can learn to release tension just as readily as it learned to hold it.

💧 Are You Actually Dehydrated... or Just Used to Feeling That Way?

Living in the Colorado mountains is incredible—but our high-altitude lifestyle comes with a hidden challenge many people underestimate: dehydration.

As a Colorado massage therapist, I regularly see clients struggling with muscle tightness, headaches, fatigue, dry skin, slower recovery, and stiffness. While there are many possible causes, hydration is often one of the simplest places to start.

In my newest blog, I explore:
💦 Why altitude increases your hydration needs
🏔️ The connection between hydration and altitude sickness
💪 How water supports muscle recovery and massage
⚡ When electrolytes can be helpful
🌿 Simple habits to stay hydrated year-round

Hydration isn't just about quenching your thirst—it's about supporting your energy, movement, recovery, and overall wellness.

Whether you're hiking, biking, skiing, gardening, or simply living life in the mountains, your body depends on water more than you may realize.

How many times have you caught yourself leaning toward your computer, looking down at your phone, driving for hours, or carrying the weight of the day on your shoulders?

Over time, our bodies adapt. Tight shoulders, a stiff upper back, a closed-off chest, and even shallow breathing can become so familiar that we hardly notice them.

My newest blog explores why opening the front of your body can help you breathe more deeply, move more freely, and simply feel better.

Take a few minutes to read it—you might discover why your shoulders have been asking for attention. 💙

Many of us spend our days reaching forward—toward screens, responsibilities, and the demands of everyday life. Over time, the chest tightens, the shoulders round forward, and tension begins to build. Discover how opening the chest and shoulders can support better posture, easier breathing, less pa...

Quick check-in:

👉 Unclench your jaw.
👉 Drop your shoulders.
👉 Soften your belly.

Did anything change?

Many people don't realize how much tension they carry in their abdomen. When we're stressed, the body often braces through the belly and begins breathing from the chest instead of the diaphragm.

Over time, that can affect everything from relaxation and recovery to digestion and overall well-being.

Soft Belly, Deep Breath, explores why belly tension isn't always about food—and how learning to soften can help the entire body relax.

What part of your body tends to hold stress first?

The belly holds more than digestion. Stress, anxiety, and shallow breathing often show up as subtle tension through the abdomen and diaphragm. When the belly softens and the breath deepens, the nervous system can begin to settle — supporting digestion, relaxation, and a greater sense of ease in th...

Tight hips. Low back tension. A belly that always feels braced.

It may not just be your muscles—it may be your body's stress response.

My newest blog explores the psoas, often called the "fight-or-flight muscle," and how stress can become stored deep within the body.

✨ Breathe.
✨ Soften.
✨ Move.

Deep within the body lies the psoas — a powerful muscle that connects the spine to the legs and plays a key role in both movement and the stress response. When this muscle holds tension from sitting, stress, or shallow breathing, it can influence the hips, low back, and even the way we breathe.
