Don't worry if your child wants to read the same book over and over—that repetition is actually helping them learn!

Reading familiar books gives children the chance to:
📚 Learn new vocabulary
💬 Strengthen language skills
🧠 Improve comprehension
⭐ Build confidence as they begin to anticipate words and events in the story

✨ Myth vs. Fact ✨

❌ Myth: "Bilingualism causes speech and language delays."

✅ Fact: Research shows that learning two (or more!) languages does not cause a speech or language disorder.

Children are capable of learning multiple languages at the same time. If a child has a speech or language disorder, it will be present across all of the languages they speak—not because they are bilingual.

Families should feel confident speaking the language they're most comfortable using at home. Rich, meaningful conversations in any language help support communication development.

🌊 Wednesday Activity: Splash & Learn!

Whether you're at the pool, beach, splash pad, or even playing in the sink, water activities are a great way to build language!

Talk about what your child is doing using words like:
🌊 Pour
🌊 Splash
🌊 Float
🌊 Sink
🌊 Full
🌊 Empty
🌊 Wet
🌊 Dry

The more your child hears these words during play, the more opportunities they have to learn and use them.

This week, try offering choices instead of asking open-ended questions.
Instead of:
❌ "What do you want to drink?"
Try:
✅ "Would you like milk or water?"

Offering choices can make it easier for children to communicate while still encouraging them to use language.

🌟 Monday Communication Tip 🌟

This week, try giving your child a little extra time to respond.

After you ask a question or make a comment, pause and count silently to five before saying anything else. Those extra few seconds can give your child the time they need to process, think, and respond.

It may feel like a long pause, but sometimes that's all a child needs!

✨ Myth vs. Fact ✨

❌ Myth: "The more questions I ask, the more my child will talk."

✅ Fact: Children often learn more from hearing language than from being quizzed.

Instead of asking question after question, try commenting on what your child is doing:
💬 "You're building a tall tower!"
🚗 "That truck is going so fast!"
🐞 "You found a tiny bug!"

Modeling language during everyday activities gives your child words they can use in their own communication.

💡 Sometimes, saying less and commenting more can make a big difference!

Head outside for a nature scavenger hunt! As your child searches for each item, talk about what they see, hear, feel, and smell. Ask them to describe what they found, compare objects, or tell you why they chose them.

Simple activities like this help build vocabulary, descriptive language, and conversation skills—all while having fun outdoors!
