At 91 years old, Martha Ramer faced extraordinary odds after suffering a severe neck injury (an internal decapitation) in a car crash. Following initial medical treatment, hospice care was suggested. However, after seeking a second medical opinion, Martha chose to receive rehabilitation at ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Avondale.
At the hospital, our interdisciplinary healthcare team developed a customized treatment plan for Martha that included intensive therapy to help her regain strength and independence. Just 15 days later, Martha was discharged to an assisted living facility.
“Martha’s story is a beautiful reminder that what we get to do is a gift,” said Amy Hansen, CEO of ClearSky Avondale.
