Willing Hands is a simple DBT skill that can help us move toward acceptance when a moment feels painful, frustrating, or unfair.
When we are resisting reality, our bodies often show it first—clenched fists, crossed arms, tight shoulders, or a tense jaw. Willing Hands invites us to gently open our hands, relax our fingers, and turn our palms upward.
This small change in posture sends a message to the mind:
“I may not like this moment, but I am willing to stop fighting the fact that it is happening.”
Acceptance does not mean approval, giving up, or pretending something does not hurt. It means caring for what is within your control and allowing the rest to be what it is—one moment at a time.
Soften your body. Open your hands. Breathe.
Less struggle, more living.
