The fight, flight, freeze, and fawn responses are natural survival reactions built into our nervous system. They exist to help us respond to danger and protect ourselves.
However, when these responses become dysregulated, they can begin to work against us. Conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and chronic stress can cause these reactions to activate too easily, stay on for too long, or appear in situations that are not truly threatening.
Over time this can lead to patterns such as avoidance, emotional shutdown, people-pleasing, irritability, or constant hyper-alertness.
At STONE Mental Health, we help individuals understand how their nervous system works and develop the tools to regulate these responses. Through awareness, skill development, and guided support, our goal is to help you train your mind and body so these survival responses work for you, not against you.
