Advanced Center for Eyecare (ACE) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit medical eye care organization located in Bakersfield, California. Chang, M.D., of Empire Eye and Laser Center in 2010. Alarming statistics of approximately 42% of the Kern County population or 2 in 5 people do not have access to quality eye care services. MISSION

As draws to a close, we are overwhelmed by your generosity. We’ve raised over $5,400 today toward our $15,000 goal for the ACE Vision Van!

While our matching challenges have nearly been met, the mission is just getting into gear. Every dollar raised today is a direct investment in the 1 in 4 children who struggle with vision problems, especially those in our rural communities like Ridgecrest, Lake Isabella, and Taft.

For many of these families, the "blur" isn't just about eyesight; it’s about the barriers of distance, time, and cost. By helping us bring the clinic to the classroom, you are removing those hurdles and changing the trajectory of a child's entire life. Join us in morning at The Park at River walk to celebrate our 15th Anniversary and help launch our "15 for 15" campaign during Give Big at the Park.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to get the ACE Vision Van on the road, bringing high-quality eye care directly to students in our outlying school districts. Your support helps cover the vital "impact costs," the fuel, the medical staff, and the high-quality lenses needed to reach children in communities like Ridgecrest and Taft.

80% of what a child learns in school is presented visually. But for 1 in 4 students in Kern County, that information is a blur. 📉📚

At Advanced Center for Eyecare, we believe no child’s potential should be limited by their lack of access to eye care. Last year, our School-Based Vision Centers provided nearly 600 eye exams and 500 pairs of glasses to students who might have otherwise fallen behind.

We’ve seen it firsthand: when the world comes into focus, a child’s posture changes, their confidence returns, and their future opens up.

But we aren’t finished. While we serve two large districts, there are 46 districts in Kern County. Many students in our remote areas still do not have affordable access to the eye care they need to thrive.

This year, for our 15th Anniversary, we are raising $15,000 to put our new Vision Van into motion. Your gift during provides the fuel, the medical staff, and the lenses to reach every corner of our county.

🎉 Wow, Kern County! Your generosity has been incredible, and the matching funds have been fully utilized! Thank you to everyone who helped us reach that milestone. We've raised nearly $6,000 so far, bringing our Vision Van into clearer focus! 👀

But the need is still significant. Did you know that 1 in 4 children has a vision problem? And in Kern County, 4 out of 10 families struggle to make ends meet, making access to essential eye care a real challenge, especially in our vast rural areas (Kern is California's third largest county!).

Our school-based vision centers and Bakersfield clinic are making a real difference, but there are so many more children in areas like Ridgecrest, Lake Isabella, and Taft who need our help. The ACE Vision Van will allow us to reach these students directly, and there are still several hours left during Give Big Kern to help get us closer to our goal.

💝 It’s official — Give Big Kern 2025 is underway, and we’re so excited to kick things off this morning!

Kern County’s Day of Giving is just two weeks away (May 6!), but early donations are already being accepted — and this year, we’re rallying support for something big: our brand-new Vision Van campaign! 🚐✨

As the only nonprofit eye care provider in the Central Valley, ACE has spent the last 14 years making sight-restoring care accessible and affordable to thousands of uninsured and underinsured individuals across Kern County. Now, we’re hoping to hit the road to do even more by bringing free eye exams and glasses directly to students in Kern’s most remote, underserved communities.
