🚂💨Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 made its highly anticipated journey along the Schuylkill River, putting on quite a show as it prepared for wyeing at the Laurel Hill CSX junction last week. Thousands of dedicated railfans and curious locals lined the nearby trails, bridges, and overlooks, braving the intense summer heat just to feel the ground shake and hear that legendary, full-throated whistle echo through the city.

Whether you caught a glimpse of this 1.2-million-pound engineering marvel rolling past Laurel Hill East or saw it up close during its holiday display at the Navy Yard, it was truly a once-in-a-generation American moment.

Today, we celebrate Independence Day by looking back at the incredible legacies resting right here at Laurel Hill. Our grounds are the final resting place for numerous Revolutionary War heroes, signers of the Declaration of Independence, and early American patriots who shaped the nation we celebrate today. 🇺🇸

As you enjoy your barbecues and fireworks, take a moment to remember the diverse stories and sacrifices that built our history.

Our gates are open today for quiet reflection, peaceful walks, and historic discovery. Come stroll through history and pay tribute to America's founders.

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Laurel Hill! 🏛️✨🎆

People are completely changing how they think about death, mortality, and the great beyond. Laurel Hill is proud to be leading the charge in this shift toward "death positivity." Our very own Patricia Quigley, supervisor of Laurel Hill Funeral Home, highlights how our historic cemetery connects the community to mortality through unique programming.

A golf ball. A diamond. A coral reef off the coast. When it comes to death, everyone these days is thinking outside the box.

Big things were happening at Laurel Hill this winter!🎬

We’re thrilled to share that the cemetery was chosen as a filming location for the upcoming film “Vivien & The Florist” directed by Nick Sandow featuring actors Carla Gugino and Matthew Modine. It was a blast hosting the cast and crew and seeing our grounds transformed into a movie set. Stay tuned for a glimpse of us on the big screen! 🍿✨

We are thrilled to announce our Gatehouse Rehabilitation project won a Grand Jury Award at last night’s Preservation Achievement Awards ceremony, hosted by the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.

These enhancements safeguard the cemetery’s last original building designed by John Notman and preserve a vital piece of Philadelphia’s architectural history. This striking building stands proudly as a community anchor and a welcoming presence for all visitors!

Congratulations to the other winners. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who worked on this monumental project, and thank you to the Preservation Alliance for this incredible honor!
