After last year’s ice storm, our power was knocked out. Temperatures dropped to -15, and we only had one tank of hot water for our family and all of our animals. We couldn’t risk that happening again. In the dead of winter, we prayed that the sun would thaw the streets so our electrical company could restore power to our area. We prayed the sun would melt the ice on the roads so we could get back to work. The sun came to our rescue. This little farm was a source of independence, where we could work towards being self-sufficient and being better stewards of the earth God left in our care. During that ice storm, we realized we were at the mercy of the electrical company. We realized how desperately we needed a reliable source of energy, and signed with ADT solar a month later. Since then, we’ve seen the cost of electricity skyrocket. One of our recent bills had a $50 fee tacked on to accommodate for inflation in the price of fossil fuels. Our contract with ADT solar put a stop to that. By financing solar panels for our home, we have legally locked in a fixed price for electricity, and we’ll never see another price hike. Once we pay off our financing, our electric bill disappears.
