July is UV Safety Awareness Month!

Most skin cancers are caused by exposure to UV rays from the sun and tanning devices. ☀️

UV rays can damage your skin year-round, even on cloudy days. Check the UV Index, and when it’s 3 or higher, take the necessary steps to protect your skin. 😎

As we spend time outdoors hiking, camping, gardening, and enjoying nature, we're more likely to encounter wildlife. While wild animals may seem harmless, some can carry rabies even if they don’t appear sick.

Common animals that can carry rabies include bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes but any mammal can be infected. Avoid touching or feeding wildlife and always keep a safe distance. 🦇🦝🦨🦊

If you are bitten or scratched by a wild animal, wash the area immediately with soap and water and contact your healthcare provider and local health department right away.

Swimming is a great way to cool off and stay active this summer, but germs that cause diarrheal illness can spread quickly in pools, splash pads, and lakes. Swallowing even a small amount of contaminated water can make you sick. 🤮

Help keep yourself and others healthy by practicing healthy swimming habits:
▪️Stay out if you are sick with diarrhea
▪️Rinse off before going in the water
▪️Take kids on bathroom breaks
▪️Check diapers every hour
▪️Don’t swallow the water

Each year, thousands of people are bitten by ticks. Tick activity increases during warmer weather, and ticks are commonly found in grassy, brushy, and wooded areas. Even spending time in your own backyard can lead to tick exposure. 🏡

After outdoor activities, do a full-body tick check and inspect pets, clothing, and gear too. Early tick removal can help reduce the risk of tick-borne illness.
