Understanding Benzodiazepines in Hospice Care 💙

Benzodiazepines are an important part of hospice care when used thoughtfully and appropriately. Their purpose isn’t to hasten death—it’s to provide comfort, ease distress, and improve quality of life for patients facing serious illness.

These medications may be used to help relieve:
• Anxiety and panic
• Restlessness or agitation
• Shortness of breath related to anxiety
• Seizures
• Difficulty resting at the end of life

Every patient is different, which is why medications are carefully assessed, individually dosed, and routinely adjusted to meet each person’s unique needs. Our focus is always on comfort, dignity, and helping patients spend meaningful time with the people they love.
