Frida Kahlo was considered one of Mexico's greatest artists who began painting mostly self-portraits after she was severely injured in a bus accident. She was a woman who had multiple disabilities including polio as a child, spinal and pelvis damage from a car accident. In 1953, her leg was amputated, a result of gangrene that the researchers believe she contracted during an unnecessary surgery. Her were works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico, with a art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. She serves as a role model for generations of artists, people with disabilities and a feminist icon. Frida Kahlo stated “I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.”

Happy Birthday to Tupac Amaru Shakur, the true gangsta rapper. 🕊 You felt his pain and struggle through his music. You felt uplifted when you heard him saying “you gotta keep your head up”. Not only was he a rapper but an actor, activist and poet. He would have been 48 years old today and still remains to be one of the most influential and greatest rappers of all time. 💙 @ Carney, Maryland

Born in Atlanta Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr. was an Baptist Minister and Activist who fought for civil rights. He became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1954.

He fought for peace and freedom with his speeches and movements. He is known for his famous “I HAVE A DREAM” speech with great quotes like “ Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”. He refused to be silent about about injustice and things that really matter. He was assassinated in 1968 because his stand on freedom affected and moved many people that wanted and fought for a change.
