Leavenworth, KS to St. Joseph Missouri graduate:
Literally, just a small-town girl who entered the world through the USMC. All I knew was how to be tough and how to survive.
My friends knew she was strong, had a great smile, and could do anything. My nieces and nephews thought she was leaving to save the world. My closest cousins, friends, and sisters were more like, “Run… and don’t return.” 😂
I did some incredible and unimaginable things in the Corps that I would do again in a heartbeat. But when I started motherhood, one thing I said I would never do was let my past define the way I raised my children.
I was determined not to be like any of the three designated parental figures who were put in charge of my well-being. They dropped the ball with drugs, alcohol, and abusive behaviors, but that was just the beginning.
Now, I’m not innocent when it comes to enjoying a drink. Y’all have seen my tequila posts. As I’ve entered my Auntie Era, I’m more on the mimosa level these days. 🍾😂 But drugs? I’ll pass.
Both of my children got a good spanking here and there growing up, though my daughter swears she never got one. I’ll have to double-check that. But since she’s 6 feet tall and can crush a volleyball like a giant stepping on an ant, I’m just going to take her word for it. 🤣
Conquering this world in many different ways is what I set out to do.
So here I am, 30 years after graduation. We’ve lost my ride-or-die, Areas Huff, in more ways than one. Not only did she find out we didn’t share DNA, but she also lost her life in the hospital due to a deadly fentanyl overdose.
That month, I failed a class. But the next month, I got back up, kept going, finished what I started, and graduated in May 2026 as Dr. Queen MekaBean. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can’t wait to see all of your faces!
