IS IT TRUE? Does cracking your knuckles cause arthritis? 🧐

We’ve all heard it—maybe from a parent or grandparent trying to get us to stop that annoying popping sound. But is it actually true?

The Answer: FALSE! ❌

That popping sound isn't your bones rubbing together. It’s actually just gas bubbles popping! Your joints are surrounded by a protective fluid called synovial fluid. When you pull or bend your fingers to crack them, you create a tiny pocket of vacuum, causing dissolved gases in the fluid to rapidly form bubbles and burst.

⚠️ A quick note from our team: While it won’t give you arthritis, habitual or aggressive knuckle cracking can sometimes lead to reduced grip strength or temporary hand swelling. If you ever experience pain, swelling, or limited movement when your joints pop, that is a sign to have a medical professional take a look.
