Noah Kahan recently shared in an interview that this song was written for his sister, and hearing the song through that lens made the lyrics hit even harder for me.
As a therapist, I found it so meaningful to hear the perspective of the younger brother, especially how he captures both the appreciation for the eldest daughter/older sister role and the quiet expectation that comes with it.
So many eldest daughters grow up being seen as the strong one, the fixer, or the emotional support system in their families, and I think this song captures that experience so vulnerably and beautifully. 🤍
