Today, we celebrate Juneteenth National Independence Day.

More than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was enacted - June 19, 1865 - official word was finally delivered to the military in Galveston, Texas, that the Civil War was over, and all remaining enslaved people were to be freed.

Juneteenth, also referred to as Freedom Day, celebrates one of the many fundamental steps taken to ensure the independence of Black Americans. Armed with hope and unwavering persistence, more than 250,000 formerly enslaved people forged ahead, contributing to the greatness of this country.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 Baltimore PRIDE weekend is here!!! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

We'll be out and about at the Parade on Saturday, and at the Pride Festival on Sunday.

The parade will begin at North Charles Street and East 21st Street and travel about half a mile north, ending at North Charles Street and East 27th Street. Our Chase Brexton delegation will be toward the front of the parade, so keep an eye out!

Then, at the Pride Festival in Druid Hill Park on Sunday, stop by the ElderPride tent, our Chase Brexton booth and POWER Project van from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. We'll have information about Chase Brexton services--including getting started in care--as well as free, fast, confidential STI testing. We'll also host LGBT elders for a fellowship and intergenerational conversations. Don't miss out--check the map for our location.
