The nationwide shortage of blood and blood products is severe enough that the American Red Cross has declared a crisis--only the second in its history. The blood supply fell nearly 25% in June, and blood donations are now at a four-year summer low. Make a donation at our Aug. 12-14 blood drive and you might save the lives of up to three people!

Security officers raised Donate Life Maryland’s Donate Life flag this week in honor of a patient who made the selfless decision to be an organ donor. The flag will fly for the next 7 days. Their name will also be engraved on the organ and tissue donor recognition wall in the lobby of the FSK Pavilion.

This patient’s generosity gave the gift of life to patients in need. You can make a difference in someone's life by registering to be an organ and tissue donor at donatelifemaryland.org.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Lisa Ishii has been named president of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center! This appointment, effective Aug. 3, follows a national search where Dr. Ishii proved the ideal choice to lead the medical center into the future. Dr. Ishii has served as the interim president of Johns Hopkins Bayview since January.

Dr. Ishii is a highly accomplished clinician-leader, having held a large number of clinical and leadership roles at Johns Hopkins Medicine. These include, but are not limited to, serving as medical director of the Johns Hopkins White Marsh Surgery Center; senior medical director for clinical integration in the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians; chief quality officer for ambulatory procedures for the health system; and senior vice president of operations for Johns Hopkins Health System.

In addition to her leadership roles, Dr. Ishii has continued to serve as professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at The Johns Hopkins University and practice as a respected clinician. In addition, she has published extensively in peer-reviewed publications, written multiple book chapters and serves as an associate editor for the specialty journal Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Ishii on yet another impressive accomplishment! We are thrilled Dr. Ishii will continue to serve as our leader, and look forward to many more milestones to come.

Johns Hopkins Bayview recently teamed up with the Bayview Community Association and the Department of Government, Community and Economics Partnerships at The Johns Hopkins University to host a movie night for our Bayview community! Over 400 residents attended the free cookout and outdoor showing of ​Shrek​ with their friends and neighbors.​ We're glad we had the opportunity to support a relaxing evening with family and friends​, and look forward to more events in the future.

This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to quality, safety and excellence in patient care. Congratulations to the faculty and staff on this achievement!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Johns Hopkins Bayview's annual Juneteenth celebration! Attendees enjoyed live music by Spice Band, games, crafts, an art showcase and raffles. Donations were also collected to benefit Johns Hopkins Bayview's food pantry.
