New research explores the use of transcranial ultrasound through sonolucent burr-hole covers in the postoperative follow-up of chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH). In this case series, authors compared point-of-care ultrasound with CT during outpatient follow-up.

The publication contributes to the growing body of literature evaluating the use of transcranial ultrasound with sonolucent cranial technologies in neurosurgical care.

A recent review published in Brain Sciences summarizes the evolution of sonographic techniques used in extracranial–intracranial bypass evaluation, including trans-sonolucent cranioplasty ultrasonography (TCUS).

The authors discuss published evidence describing ultrasound visualization through acoustically transparent PMMA cranial implants, as well as technical considerations and areas where further clinical validation is needed.
