Happy Wednesday!

We wanted to let you know that Gladstone's certified DBT program is starting up another round of our 12 week skills group for family and friends. The next round starts Tuesday Sept. 1 6:30-8:30 PM. This group is for loved ones of individuals with intense emotional dysregulation. The group intends to help our clients' loved ones learn skills to better support our clients. And it's also true that your loved one doesn't have to be in our program for you to participate.

The group costs $1,800 total, billed monthly at $600 per month. The price covers up to 2 people from the same family. If you or any of your clients want to sign up, you can do so by emailing Nicole Roder at [email protected]. Thank you!

"Didn't really know what to expect. Conversation with doctor was easy and pleasant. She was able to get my teen to open up and discuss topics that he clearly didn't want to talk about. Scheduling is quite easy after you're able to get the first visit confirmed. I am glad we're utilizing this organization."

Sharing another 5 🌟 Google review! Thank you for trusting Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness with all of your mental health care!

"My experience with Gladstone Psychiatry has been excellent on many levels. Dr. Khanna, my psychiatrist, is not only a talented mental health professional but is caring, supportive, and a good listener. I am also lucky enough to be a member of Gladstone’s weight loss support group. This is not your typical weight loss group! It is health oriented and provides lectures by professionals in multiple areas: exercise and physical wellness; dietitians; a life coach; mental health support on the journey to achieve our personal goals; and personal connections made with others in the group. Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness has greatly improved my quality of life and I encourage to explore what they can do for you."

Four Areas to Focus On This Month for Mental Health Wellness

1. Sleep Sleep is the foundation nearly everything else depends on. Poor sleep worsens anxiety, irritability, and emotional regulation, and it can make existing mental health conditions harder to manage. A consistent bedtime and wake time, even on weekends, is one of the most effective, and most overlooked, mental health interventions available.

2. Movement You don't need an intense fitness routine to benefit. Even a 10-15 minute walk can lower stress hormones and improve mood. The goal during National Wellness Month isn't a new exercise regimen. It's finding one small way to move your body most days.

3. Connection Isolation feeds anxiety and depression. Wellness Month is a good prompt to reach out. This might include a call to a friend, a standing coffee date, or simply being more present in the conversations you're already having.

4. Mindfulness and Emotional Check-Ins Mindfulness practice doesn't have to mean a formal meditation practice. It can be as simple as pausing once a day to ask yourself how you're actually feeling, rather than running on autopilot. For clients in our DBT program, this kind of check-in is a skill we build deliberately. Naming an emotion is often the first step to managing it.

Every August, National Wellness Month asks a simple question: how are you really doing? It's easy to let self-care slide to the bottom of the list when work, family, and daily stress take priority. But at Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness, we see every day how much small, consistent habits matter for mental health.

This August, we're using National Wellness Month as a reminder that wellness isn't a spa day or a single big gesture. It's built from small, repeatable choices that add up over time.

Stress tends to show up in the body before it registers in our thoughts. Tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, or tension in the neck can all be early physical signals that something is off, often before racing thoughts or irritability set in.

Learning to notice these physical cues is the first step in effective stress management. Once you catch the tension in your body, you can respond before stress builds into something harder to manage — before it starts affecting your ability to think clearly or interact calmly with the people around you.
